Biography
Mayada Shibir is a contemporary artist and gallery director. Of Afro-European heritage, she brings a distinctive cultural perspective to both her artistic practice and curatorial work. Before fully immersing herself in the art world, she worked within the healthcare systems of England and Germany—experiences that deepened her understanding of human narratives and cross-cultural connections. Driven by a passion for artistic collaboration, she later founded an exchange project that fosters creative dialogue between England and Germany.
Her work is profoundly influenced by her family’s creative lineage and the dynamic interplay between African and European cultures. Through her art, she explores themes of identity, heritage, and cultural discourse, drawing inspiration from music, poetry, and visual storytelling while engaging with historical parallels and contemporary complexities.
In 2021, Mayada assumed the management of her father’s Shibir Nilotic Gallery for Modern African Art, continuing its legacy while expanding its presence within the contemporary art scene. Her commitment to accessibility in the arts is reflected in her exhibitions, which create an immersive and direct connection between the artwork, the space, and a diverse audience.
Her work has been showcased in solo and group exhibitions, as well as at prestigious international art fairs, galleries, and cultural institutions across major cities worldwide, including London, New York, Brussels, Milan, Paris, Madrid, Monaco, Buenos Aires, Barcelona, Miami, Nice, Brasília, and Berlin.
In December 2023, she was honored with the TOP Artist Award by Monat Art Gallery in Madrid, Spain, in recognition of her outstanding artistic achievements. Additionally, she received the 7th International Prize Leonardo da Vinci 2025, the International Prize Artists on the French Riviera 2025, and was named Winner of the Collectors Art Prize – Art Legends of Our Time, 2nd Edition (2025).
